When giving a gift for him, you are exposing the personalities and preferences of two people: his and yours.  After all, when you chose the gift, your own personality was in action, too, which means that you cannot help it that an important part of who you are is in the gift!  With that said, here are a few gift-related personality types that you can relate to.  Of course, these are not ironclad rules, only suggestions regarding your gifts and what they say about you.
