When people hear the word “grandparent,” they often think of old people. In our society – with 60 being the new 30, or whatever number flatters the older person and scares the younger – we have to think about grandparents as young and hip-thinking people, who just happen to be old enough to have children who’ve had children. Ask Oprah, and you’ll see that some people celebrating Grandparents’ Day are actually in their forties. They certainly don’t want presents for old people. Except for their ages, grandparents have a lot of privileges parents don’t have. They get to drive two-door cars again. They can travel at will. They’re done saving extra money. If they haven’t saved it by then, oops. They have more freedom and less responsibility. The best gifts for grandparents are gifts for fun-loving, young-feeling people.

Valentine’s Day gift ideas can be found everywhere online, especially now that it’s getting to be that time of year. However, most lists of the best gifts seem geared toward would-be Romeos looking to find something for their Juliets: flowers, chocolates, sentimental cards, etc. All of these presents are fine to give a man, but in all honesty, sometimes that cute teddy bear doesn’t quite elicit the same reaction from a manly man. With most people feeling the wrath of the current economy, our pocketbooks are a little lighter then we would like and we have held off buying ourselves some of the more extravagant goods and settled for the cheaper brands.  In a good economy buying a Blu-ray player may be a good gift for your man, but in today’s economy it may hurt you financially for the month.
