Unusual Birthday Gifts for Men

back-032

So, your husband, boyfriend, father, brother, son, et cetera, has a birthday coming up, and he just doesn’t like those stereotypical manly gifts? Or maybe he has every single piece of sports paraphernalia available, a fully stocked home gym, and so many personal hygiene products that he’s the pretty one in the house? No problem. Just think outside the box. What do men like? Well, how about a few ideas?

The first thought everyone should get out of their mind is that men aren’t domestically oriented. If you think that, you are completely mistaken. Forget social roles; a man can be a dynamo with a vacuum if he wants. That is the key after all—if he wants to clean, or if he wants to cook. Who doesn’t love a tidy home? So remember, the key is making it easy, so that when he wants to vacuum or make dinner, he can.

To start, vacuuming—one of those dull maintenance chores that is all about habit. If it is an hour of vacuuming a week, no one wants to do that, but if it is ten minutes here, five minutes there, that isn’t so bad, even a bit relaxing. So make it easy on him, ditch those ridiculous carpet-sucking monsters—you know, the type that has to be pulled out of a closet and plugged into a wall. That isn’t the way. If he likes a clean house, get his him something quick and easy like a battery powered and cordless vacuum from a company like Black & Decker. These things have a docking station that plugs into a wall, and when you need them, they are just waiting in a corner or a closet ready to vacuum. They are easy to clean, and last long enough on a charge to get a room or two.

Many men also like to keep their appearances in order—pressed shirts, lint-free jackets, clips on their ties—so why not do that man in your life a favor and get him a good cordless steam-dry iron. Battery powered, he can iron a shirt the day before a big meeting and not have to worry about finding an outlet. A solid ironing board will also help, or even throwing in an ironing mat for use on a table or flat surface. You can get the iron and board from companies such as Panasonic and Rowenta, who aren’t likely to steer you wrong.

Lastly, men love to eat, so make it easy for him to have some fun in the kitchen. Knives he might have, but what about a good bamboo cutting board, baking or pizza stone, or silicone baking sheets? All are cheap, easy to maintain, and no nonsense.

The key, when it comes to shopping for men, is to think outside the box. Sometimes it is about getting them what they want, but other times it is about getting them something that helps them get what they want. Figure out what he wants, likes or needs, and what the first steps are toward that, and he’ll be happy to do the rest.
