Cheap Valentine Gifts for Men

Valentine’s Day gift ideas can be found everywhere online, especially now that it’s getting to be that time of year. However, most lists of the best gifts seem geared toward would-be Romeos looking to find something for their Juliets: flowers, chocolates, sentimental cards, etc. All of these presents are fine to give a man, but in all honesty, sometimes that cute teddy bear doesn’t quite elicit the same reaction from a manly man. Here are a few ideas that aren’t too costly and will make your man (or man-to-be) light up instead of shut down.
Articles of clothing can be good ideas, if the guy you’re shopping for has grown out of the “a sweater is NOT a present” phase (which some of us never do). Since February still definitely feels like winter in many places, you can take this chance to contribute a stylish, warm addition to your man’s wardrobe. A nice scarf can be a great, low-cost option—bonus points if you made it yourself. Other ideas in this category include a good pair of gloves or a warm winter hat.
If you feel like he wouldn’t be thrilled with clothes, another idea is to make your gift event-oriented. Many times the pressure of Valentine’s Day planning falls on the male—he is expected to show his sensitive side and dream up some way to make you feel special. Of course, this tradition is a wonderful and time-honored one, but if the man you’re thinking of isn’t much for planning, then the best gift you could give is to take some of the weight off of his shoulders and take him on a Valentine’s date instead. He’ll be relieved and impressed when you reveal that he doesn’t need to make those reservations—you already took care of it. This can be especially good if you’re planning on using Valentine’s Day to woo a man you aren’t already dating. Secure a few hours with him, and then discreetly show him the time of his life. He won’t forget it—or you.
Maybe neither of these options seems right. Perhaps your man isn’t metrosexual enough to appreciate those leather gloves you were eyeing for him, nor is he the type to abdicate his duties as Valentine’s Day planning king. Or maybe you are just exceedingly low on cash and can’t really think of a present you could afford that would signify your feelings adequately. In these cases, sometimes a promise or a “coupon” for something he’s always on your case about is a nice way to personalize the gift and be a subtle cheapskate at the same time. If he always wants you to get work off on Saturdays, but you never can, make an exception next week. If he’s into sports, promise to throw him the best game-day party of his life. The attention to his interests is what counts here, and he’ll appreciate it even though it didn’t cost you a dime. Sometimes the best gifts are free, after all.
