Homemade Valentine Gifts for Men

Show your man how special he is to you this Valentine’s Day and make a homemade gift.
Keep the romance in your relationship with some special scented candles. The soft glow and fresh scents will build your love. Candles in bright colors and bold shapes will make it even more fun. Candle wax can be melted in a double boiler or a smaller saucepan floating in water in a larger saucepan. Make sure to use a double boiler and keep a close watch on the wax as it melts. Candle wax or paraffin can catch on fire without a wick or flame if it gets too hot.
If you are going to pour the candle wax into a glass container, make sure that the glass container can withstand quick temperature changes and high heat. Jars used for canning jellies and preserving vegetables are a good choice. Tie a ribbon around the candle and attach a special note. Make the note something special for your man. It can be a great starter to an evening of love.
If you want to create a homemade gift for your man on Valentine’s Day, you can crack ice and pour it into an empty wax-paper milk carton. Then pour in hot melted wax. Lower a wick into the center and hold it in place until the wax cools and turns solid. Drain out the melted ice (water) and place the candle and milk carton in the refrigerator to cool to a firm solid. Strip the wax carton’s sides away from the candle. It will reveal a lacy candle structure that will cast lights and shadows as the candle is used. If you don’t like the pattern of the candle you can re-melt it and try the crushed ice effect again with another wax-paper milk carton.
Place the candle on a plate that can handle temperature changes. Make sure that the plate has high edges around it to contain the melting wax. Use long fireplace-type matches in case you have to relight the candle as it burns down deep into the center of the lacy form. Put some non-flammable decorations around the base. Cut a few hearts or stars out of aluminum foil. You can also crumple aluminum foil up and shape into heart shapes. The candlelight will bounce off these shiny pieces.
Your homemade Valentine gift will keep you and your man company all evening long. You can use this special candle as a centerpiece to a romantic dinner at home for Valentine’s Day. Cook your man’s favorite meal and serve his favorite drinks. As the candle grows shorter the emotions can build up. In future years, the scents will remind him of your love and your special evening together. Your homemade Valentine gift for your special man will be appreciated.
