One-Year Anniversary Gifts for Him

In any relationship, hitting the one-year mark is an occasion worth celebrating. Couples can enjoy the classic dinner-and-a-movie-type date, or opt for something a little more creative such as a picnic, canoeing, camping, or a trip somewhere special. But one part of this happy occasion can bring extra stress into the day: What kind of gift will your man enjoy? Men are notoriously difficult to shop for on any occasion, but for the one you love it can be even harder. You can’t just buy a set of socks like you did for your uncle at Christmas.
The best place to start when stumped for gift ideas is his personality. Over the past year or however long you’ve known him, what kinds of things has he been interested in? Is he the outdoorsy type? If so, equipment for hunting, fishing, or camping may be appropriate. Good sources for those kinds of things are a Bass Pro Shop, Cabela’s, Gander Mountain, or other outlet store.
For men who are the executive types, a nice tailored pair of pants, jacket, dress shirt, or briefcase could be a classy and functional way to show your affection. Other ideas include a pen gift set, a cell phone case, Bluetooth headset, or palm pilot/blackberry phone.
For the technologically inclined, the possibilities are endless. No man on earth can resist a new HDTV, DVD player, laptop, iPod, or projector for his personal toys. If he’s the gaming type, ask at your local Wal-Mart what kinds of Xbox or PS2 games are out.
Movies are a budget-friendly but lasting way to treat him to some eye candy as well. Think of what movies the two of you have seen together or what kinds of movies he has talked about and follow those lines to the action, drama or horror flicks. Of course, 99% of men on the planet also adore sports, particularly football. If he has a declared allegiance to a certain team, merchandise from that team is always a safe bet. A nice jersey, team blanket, mug, beer stein, shot glass, or shirt will be appreciated and used for years to come.
Food is also a safe route to choose. A gift certificate to his favorite wing joint or a home-cooked meal will satisfy his taste buds and earn you some points in his book as well. General gifts all men will use include gas cards, CDs, ties, socks, or other clothing. If you are in an intimate relationship, a bedroom IOU is also sure to get his motor revved.
Though many gifts for men can be generalized, the best gifts are the ones that come from the heart, so observe your man and make note of what he likes and dislikes, what he gets excited about, and what he mentions wanting. Then use that information to seek out the perfect gift for your one-year celebration.
