The love of your life shows up in his best blue suit, hands over a dozen red long-stemmed roses, and proffers a diamond bracelet just for you. And you’re left sitting across the table of the expensive restaurant, feeling guilty for getting him heart-covered boxers that don’t even begin to equal his worth. As centered around women as Valentine’s Day tends to be, it’s nice for the girls to be able to reciprocate in kind. However, a woman can’t exactly expect her beau to be content with flowers or candy, can she?
Well, it depends on the guy, but there are some fun variations on traditional gifts that might be perfect for him. When he buys you flowers, get him some in return. No, don’t invest in a pricey bouquet, but consider a tasteful corsage for him to wear to your special evening. Perhaps it can match your dress. Be sure not to have flowers delivered to his office, and skip the sappy card and stuffed bear, too. He might appreciate it in private, but in public such a gift will only embarrass the majority of men because it’s not considered “masculine.”
You might have to butch up the jewelry too, but for certain guys, this is a great present. Some men appreciate pinky rings, perhaps with his initials engraved or his birthstone. Others will wear a necklace. Be sure to ascertain whether he wear things like this first, but if so, feel free to go this route. You can even ask your jeweler for advice on staying tasteful; remember, he’s going to be wearing it out with you.
You might get a tastier share of the gift if you opt to get him chocolate. While you should forego the silky, ruffled boxes of treats, check out some of the more refined options available. Godiva, for instance, can have a masculine feel to its gold boxes and brown ribbons, and the website even has a special category of gifts for him. For a more exotic choice, think about visiting a gourmet candy shop and selecting chocolates with spicy or strange combinations; it can be an exciting adventure to try them, especially if your guy is the gourmet type.
As these few examples show, a masculine twist can be put on most any traditional gift. Just get rid of the pink bows and tailor it to your love’s taste. Be sure not to step on any toes by spending more than he does, but do make it personal by adding little touches. And most importantly, make sure it will be something he will genuinely enjoy, looking back fondly for years to come on the time you got him the perfect gift on the perfect day.
