Romantic Christmas Gifts for Men

Around the holidays everyone feels the pressure to find the perfect romantic gift for her man, which for most of us means that we will rack our brains until the last possible minute and get him a sweater or some socks just so we don’t show up on Christmas empty-handed. This doesn’t have to be the case if you stop procrastinating and start paying attention. Remember, what makes a gift romantic isn’t the type of gift, but the thought put into the gift. What you may find romantic, your partner may find uncomfortable so keep him in mind. Why buy your man a couples massage if he is uncomfortable getting semi-naked in front of a masseuse? Why treat him to a deliciously decadent meal if he is watching his weight? The first thing you need to do to get a really great romantic gift is pay attention. No, listening and researching aren’t nearly as glamorous as running through the mall with a herd of shoppers hoping to spy that perfect gift in a store window. But do you really think that will happen and then do you really want to see the look on his face when you give him socks… again?
Presents where you do something together and build memories tend to be the most romantic. Men tend to be fairly straightforward with what they want. If he says “nothing” when you ask, in most cases he truly cannot think of anything he wants, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get a romantic gift anyway—it will just take some more digging. Listen for phrases like “If I didn’t have to work so much I would…” or “If we only had the time, I would…” and then make that happen.
Think back—has he always talked about seeing the Cubs play at Wrigley Field? Plan a weekend getaway to Chicago, complete with a night for two in a hotel and a day of sports-filled fun. If something a little less expensive is more your style, plan a “staycation” and transform a room in your house into a hotel and watch the game on TV.
Has he been ogling that new digital camera or digital recorder? Get that for him but tie it into something fun and sexy by taking photos on the camera before you give it to him. You can create a scavenger hunt of his favorite places in town and end your day at home with… well, who knows? The point of a romantic gift isn’t the dollar amount, it is showing your man that you paid attention and were willing to go out of your way to do something for him—even if it wasn’t your idea of romantic. Who knows? Your romantic experience-based present may start a trend, which you will both enjoy.
