Men say women are hard to shop for. Women say men are hard to shop for. The fact is that everyone is hard to shop for, until you pinpoint something they want or need. For those who seem to have everything, or for those who are hard to read, shopping for gifts can be one of the most stressful tasks ever. Here are some tips to help you find gifts for the men in your life—no matter what time of year it is.
Consider your relationship
You wouldn’t buy the same thing for your father as you would your boyfriend. The same goes for your brother, a co-worker, or a friend. The relationship the two of you share will help you narrow down the gift selections.
What’s he into?
Most men have something that they are into. Does he like NASCAR? John Deere? Tools? A particular sport or sports team? These are all things that will help you to continue narrowing down potential gift selections.
Is there something he needs?
If he’s into sports, does he play them? Does he watch them? Both? If he plays, consider finding something he could use, such as a bat or a ball. If he watches, consider getting him something like a tailgating chair, or another accessory with his team logo. Do you know of something specific he needs that you could find with the logo? For instance, if he needs a lighter and loves the Raiders, get a zipper with the Raiders emblem.
Is there something he wants?
If you’re lucky, the man you’re shopping for has blatantly asked for something, or has dropped a hint or two. There are probably quite a few things he has said he wants, so if possible, pick one that you remember and can afford to get.
Ask around
Ask friends, family members, or co-workers for ideas. If nothing else, you may be able to find inspiration from talking to other people who know him. If you’ve got a gift in mind but can’t seem to make a decision on it, ask them what they think to help you determine how he’ll feel about it.
Shopping for men’s gifts can take time and cause frustration. Start shopping or planning ahead of time so you can have some ideas to help you get started.
