Male Gift Ideas

Picking gifts for men is always easy when you know the recipient and the occasion well enough to have an idea what he would enjoy and find useful. However, thinking of a gift for a male colleague you don’t know much about might catch you off guard. Good thing there are always tips available for the rookie gift shopper.

Most self-help sites will tell you to dig into his interests and hobbies—maybe sports, woodworking, music, hiking, barbecue, or gadgets. If you know the things he likes, it will surely be easier for you to get something. You can easily get him magazine subscriptions, box seats for live games, a jersey of his favorite sports team, camping, hiking, or biking equipment, concert tickets, a box of decent cigars, a gym membership, car accessories, or a good or rare book.

But what if you don’t know what he likes and you don’t have enough time to get to know him better? Here’s where the generic traits of guys come in handy. Most guys enjoy a laugh, so you can always go for witty and humorous gift items like a personalized bobble head figure (preferably of himself), a condiment gun, rolls of decorative toilet paper, a weird door wedge (maybe a Swiss cheese or a stuck leg), or a unique USB flash drive or alarm clock. Any of these exceptional, yet wholesome gift items would surely be enjoyed by any guy.

Apart from funny gift items, you can also go for more generic presents, especially if you don’t want to get too personal. You can give him a gift voucher to a certain store or to a nice restaurant, some ties, tie clips, or cuff links. You can also give him a set of newly released DVDs, but make sure that he doesn’t already have what you’re planning to give him.

If you’re already running out of ideas and there’s still nothing that sounds right, do not worry. You can still get a good gift for your male colleague, boss, or new acquaintance by purchasing the gift baskets that are slowly taking over the gift items industry. You can easily purchase themed baskets that will suit your guy acquaintance’s personality. You can purchase a car basket with a good deal of car accessories included, a shaving basket with a complete shaving kit, a golfer’s basket that can include anything from basic golfing gear to sun screen, golfer’s GPS, and beer, or a booze basket that will provide him with different bar items he can use for the future parties he can now hold and serve with cocktails.

If all else fails, you can always resort to consumables. As it has already been proven by many, the stomach is still the best way to a man’s heart, so giving him a food or fruit basket will always be a good gift idea.

Just always remember that gifts are interpreted many ways, so, plan your gifts well to make sure you’re fulfilling the fun purpose of gift-giving and not offending anyone. Also, enjoy the process; remember that gift giving is a good way to get to know a new person and a potential friend.
